Taxpayers on the hook for EV delusion - Trudeau and Ford commit billions to Honda plants in Ontario
Toronto – On Thursday, Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced that with taxpayer support Honda will be investing billions in EV manufacturing plants in Ontario. According to the deal, the federal government will give Honda around $2.5 billion through tax credits for electric vehicle manufacturing and supply chain investment. The Ontario Government will provide $2.5 billion directly in cost and indirectly in site servicing cost.
According to CAE President Dan McTeague “Taxpayers are on the hook subsidizing a failing industry. In Trudeau’s own words, there is no business case for EV’s in Canada. Sales are slumping around the world. No matter how much money you throw at this, it doesn’t make economic sense.”
“Trudeau continues to stifle industries that support the Canadian economy like resource development all while subsidizing industries that only survive with taxpayer support. It is no wonder we are suffering an affordability crisis.”
