Rising Gas Prices Renew Calls to Develop Canada’s Energy
| By Dan McTeagueFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The ongoing turmoil in the Middle East has roiled global oil markets, significantly increasing gasoline prices across Canada this week. Gas has risen approximately X cents per litre since Monday in several major cities.
President of Canadians for Affordable Energy (CAE) Dan McTeague said that this should serve as a reminder to all Canadians of the necessity of building out our natural resource sector to safeguard against tumultuous events in an uncertain world.
“Canada sits atop some of the world’s largest proven reserves of oil and natural gas. The idea that our economy should be so vulnerable to energy disruptions halfway around the world is madness,” said McTeague. “It’s time for Ottawa to get serious: build the pipelines we need, slash the regulatory red tape strangling our energy industry, and unleash our abundant oil and natural gas resources. That’s the real path to energy security, affordability, and protecting everyday Canadians from these punishing price spikes.”
McTeague continued, “Doing so would also enable Canada to step up as a dependable supplier of hydrocarbon energy to nations around the world as global supply chains are under threat.”
To help Canadians stay informed, McTeague publishes daily next-day gas price predictions for cities across Canada, typically released around 4:00 p.m. ET, giving drivers up to 24 hours notice before prices change at the pump. Canadians can find those forecasts HERE.
Canadians for Affordable Energy is a registered not-for-profit organization with approximately 125,000 supporters nationwide. McTeague, a former Member of Parliament, has been predicting gas prices for more than 20 years. More information is available at affordableenergy.ca.
