Nauseating climate rhetoric does nothing to prevent forest fires
| By Canadians for Affordable EnergyHere we go again.
Every summer, the smoke rolls in and before the embers cool, we’re told this is the climate apocalypse, and the only solution is shutting down the industry that keeps Canadians warm and employed.
Here’s the reality.
Roughly half of Canada’s wildfire ignitions are human-caused – a stray cigarette, an ATV spark, a spark from a railway. These fires are preventable with prevention campaigns and proper enforcement.
And the forests themselves? Decades of aggressive suppression let fuel pile up – deadfall and brush that turn a manageable burn into an inferno. That’s a management failure and it’s fixable with prescribed burns and thinning.
This has nothing to do with climate change.
Canada emits about 1.4% of global emissions. If we listened to the climate alarmists and bankrupted every oil and gas worker in Alberta tomorrow and the lightning strikes, the forests still burn.
The real solution for Canada’s forest fires is for government to spend on what works. Prevention. Suppression capacity. Fuel management. Protecting communities.
These solutions will save homes next summer.
Nauseating climate rhetoric does absolutely nothing.
