Premier Danielle Smith has suspended Alberta’s provincial gas tax. Now it’s time for every other Premier to follow.

Starting October 1, Alberta drivers will save 13 cents a litre on gasoline and diesel, almost $8 on a 60-litre fill-up. After months of pressure from Albertans struggling with high costs, the province is delivering relief right at the pump.

But drivers in the rest of Canada are still waiting.

Every Premier has the power to cut their province’s gas tax. Alberta has shown it can be done. Yet provincial governments across the country keep collecting it while families struggle to keep up.

Families are still paying more for groceries, transportation and everyday necessities. Rural Canadians, shift workers, small businesses and anyone who depends on a vehicle feel those costs especially hard.

Ottawa has paused the federal gas tax until January 31, 2027. Provincial gas taxes haven’t gone anywhere.

Canadians need relief at the pump — and Premiers can deliver it now.
