Here’s what the announcement didn’t say. A cold-climate heat pump costs well into five figures to install — far more than the rebate. Many insurers won’t cover a home that relies on one alone. They struggle in the cold that much of Canada gets every winter. And a million homes drawing on the grid at once means expensive upgrades that land on your electricity bill.

This isn’t about saving you money. It’s a net-zero agenda, and you pay for it twice — once in taxes, again on your heating bill.

The Carney government must abandon its plan to push Canadians off affordable, reliable home heating.
